Biking and Learning

Share

Biking to work is a lot better for the mind, body and soul if you don’t try to beat out cars, pedestrians, traffic lights, or fellow bikers. When you go at your own pace and follow the route you enjoy most you reach your destination in a way that is effective – and rewarding.

IT'S A LOT LIKE LEARNING

This year as you and your child settle into a new school year, take time to consider your child’s pace and “route” of learning. Think about their learning style – and encourage them to do the same. Does your child thrive in a hands-on environment? One that is discussion or inquiry based? Will you partner with your child’s teachers to help promote growth on a consistent plane?

COMPETITION IN SOME AREAS IS HEALTHY.

But education is not a tennis match. The word education - derived from the Latin words “educare”, “educere” and “educantum” – literally means to “bring forth from within” toward development or progress. The aim of education is to provide a learner with a nourishing environment to bring out and develop the latent potential hidden inside them. And the key here is the potential inside them.

COMPARE AND DESPAIR

Your learner is unique. It only makes sense to embrace and support their individual learning style. It makes no sense to compare their growth or “success” to that of another. Your child will learn best when you acknowledge and receive them for the learner they are and accept the style, pace, and path that’s right for them. This is how they will become their best selves – and arrive at their destination over and over again in life in ways that are effective and rewarding.
